Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;d replace it with"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/mobile\/why-pubmatic-ditched-its-prebid-web-wrapper-but-never-its-sdk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PubMatic shelved OpenWrap Web<\/a>, the Prebid wrapper that around 250 web publishers use to run their header bidding. The app SDK lives to fight another day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ve spent the past week looking at sites that still run OpenWrap. This piece covers what we found, what we&#8217;d ask when evaluating a new partner and why we think replacing the wrapper is a chance to fix a bigger problem (namely, who runs your ad business).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-we-found-on-sites-still-running-openwrap\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHAT WE FOUND ON SITES STILL RUNNING OPENWRAP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the past week we&#8217;ve reviewed seven sites still running OpenWrap, from news publishers and broadcasters to marketplaces and household-name brands whose main business isn&#8217;t media at all, they just happen to be accidental media owners. Prebid is on version 11. We found OpenWrap sites on 8.52, 9.13, 9.27 and 10.15, plus a dormant OpenWrap tag still loading Prebid 6.18. The wrapper build belongs to PubMatic, so upgrades arrive when PubMatic ships them which, from now, on will be never.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IDs that never reach the bidders. Several sites had ID5, SharedID and Lotame IDs sitting in readers&#8217; browsers that were never passed to a single bidder. One had two identity providers configured and neither returned an ID.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Missing consent signals. On some sites Prebid had no consent module at all, so no GDPR, US privacy or GPP signal reached the bidders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The same impression auctioned twice. Wrappers had been layered on top of each other over the years, with as many as four Prebid builds on one page and ad units auctioned by two of them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thin competition. One site had ten SSPs configured and only one returning valid bids. Others ran seven or eight bidders, several with no Amazon demand on display units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Missed config errors. We found bidder parameters in the wrong case (Prebid is case sensitive, so siteId and siteID are different things), desktop units mapped to mobile placements and a single zone ID shared across every slot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overgrown ads.txt files. One ran to more than 3,500 lines, over half of them for ad systems we never saw on the page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<style>.kb-image953_aa0084-f0 .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image953_aa0084-f0 size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"649\" src=\"https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/resources\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative-1024x649.jpg\" alt=\"openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-969\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/resources\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative-1024x649.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/resources\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/resources\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative-768x486.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/resources\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/openwrap-prebid-wrapper-alternative.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-evaluating-openwrap-alternatives\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">EVALUATING OPENWRAP ALTERNATIVES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When looking at partners to move across to from Openwrap, it&#8217;s worth asking these questions worth putting to any replacement (us included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Will my inventory sit alongside hundreds or thousands of other publishers? A network pools supply. Pooled supply gets sold on the network&#8217;s terms rather than yours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who will be selling my audience? If the partner runs its own direct sales team, ask whose inventory it&#8217;s selling (yours or your competitors&#8217;) and who keeps those advertiser relationships if you leave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who owns the seats, the setup and the data? If the SSP seats, the configuration and the reporting all sit in the vendor&#8217;s account, you&#8217;ve swapped one dependency for another.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What happens to page experience? High-impact formats can lift CPMs. They can also slow pages down and irritate readers. On a premium site that cost turns up somewhere else.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can I see how my floors are set and change them myself? Automated floors are useful when you can see what they&#8217;re doing and why.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If I leave, what do I keep? This tells you a lot about the relationship you&#8217;re signing up to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-a-publisher-ad-business-in-a-box\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A PUBLISHER AD BUSINESS IN A BOX<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenWrap was a header bidding wrapper. Swapping it for another wrapper fixes the one small problem, without looking at a wider, strategic alternative, and leaves everything else where it was. We think this is the moment to ask a bigger question, because the wrapper is only one of the half a dozen or more tools most publishers stitch together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tradecore puts those tools under one roof. One independent company built them to work together. The publisher runs them through one interface and owns the environment they create. We organise it around four pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-inventory-management\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inventory management<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Control of every placement, how it loads, when it refreshes and which sizes it accepts, across web, app and CTV. Changes happen in the UI, without a developer or a vendor ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-auction-management\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Auction management<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An always up-to-date Prebid wrapper and our own Prebid server, with a custom build for each publisher so you only run the adapters you need. Identity (14 ID solutions already integrated)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-business-intelligence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Business intelligence<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Real-time analytics with more than 130 metrics, your GAM data imported next to our own counts and revenue per session in one view. Auction Integrity Monitoring checks each SSP&#8217;s reported numbers against what our wrapper counted independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-ai-automation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI automation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our AI floor optimisation is live and has been in production since June. Experiments we&#8217;ve run throughout the year show it improving rates against a no-floor control group, which it keeps testing itself against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around those sit an ad server built on 25 years of continuous development, an ads.txt manager, IVT filtering, a video player and a mobile SDK running in more than 300 apps. You can run all of it or start with Tradecore as a layer alongside Google Ad Manager and go further when you&#8217;re ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-bother-owning-your-own-your-stack\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHY BOTHER OWNING YOUR OWN YOUR STACK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Owning your stack doesn&#8217;t mean building one or hiring an ad tech team. It means the wrapper, the auction, the configuration and the data belong to you. The people who help you run them work for you, not for a network. We made the longer case in why premium news publishers should own their ad tech, but a few things matter most here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One auction instead of several. When every bidder competes in a single auction, prices are set by the market rather than by whichever wrapper happened to fire first. Several of the sites we reviewed were paying for the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A shorter supply path. Buyers are cutting out intermediaries. Inventory sold through your own seats is easier for them to find and easier to trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Numbers you can check. Most publisher analytics take each SSP&#8217;s reported figures as the truth. Tradecore counts independently and reconciles the two. If your only source of truth is the SSP&#8217;s own dashboard, you don&#8217;t have a source of truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The benefit of the Google ruling. In September a US judge ordered Google to open AdX up to Prebid and rival ad servers and to share auction data with publishers. That&#8217;s only useful if you control your wrapper, ad server and reporting. If a vendor runs them, you only see the benefit as far as they deign to pass it on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No more dev queue. Adding a bidder, editing ads.txt or moving a placement happens in the UI, meaning none of it waits behind the rest of the website&#8217;s roadmap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-we-can-point-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHAT WE CAN POINT TO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/case-studies\/news-broadcasting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sinclair Broadcast Group<\/a> runs Tradecore across more than 250 local news and lifestyle properties in the US. That covers web and app, with video demand for SSAI, CTV and OTT running through the same platform. Changes that used to take weeks now take days. Our team works alongside theirs every day, with Tradecore at the heart of the entire operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tradehouse.media\/case-studies\/talktalk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TalkTalk<\/a> moved its content portal and webmail monetisation to us after leaving an arrangement that tied content to ad sales. Tradecore exists because we kept running into the same gaps ourselves, from the publisher&#8217;s side of the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re independent and bootstrapped. We don&#8217;t sell advertising and we don&#8217;t pool your inventory with anyone else&#8217;s. When you call, you speak to the people who built the platform.
